No Respect: Rodney Dangerfield, Jabberjaw and now the Gaming Industry

With the passing of Rodney Dangerfield, and Jabberjaw long gone, we have a new holder of the catchphrase "I don't get no respect!" - The gaming industry.

The gaming industry has decided to start whining that they are misrepresented and that the public is misinformed - they are good guys, really they are and they just want you to have fun no like the other party poopers out there.

The following quotes are from an article titled "Gambling expo panel nags about image, taxes" in the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Gary Loveman, president and chief executive of Harrah’s Entertainment, said, “There’s a widespread misrepresentation of what we do.”
(Larry) King asked if the rapid expansion of gaming was necessarily a good thing for the industry, noting that the new Pennsylvania laws allowing 60,000 slot machines around that state would mean they outnumber Atlantic City’s total.

“As far as I’m concerned, any kind of expansion is good,” Fahrenkopf said.

Loveman, who said he’d like for his company to be in on the ground floor in Pennsylvania, said he doesn’t believe the state’s action will hurt Atlantic City at all. He added a comment he made at the same keynote address in 2003 — that every American has a right to choose gambling as a form of entertainment.

When the question was put to IGT’s (Paulus) Karskens, he said, “This is not my territory, but when I hear 60,000 machines, I’m delighted.”

We talk like this do the gaming industry really deserve respect. How about some respect for the high percentage of their customers which experience problems in their venues or from their products.

The best they can come up with is that they are just misunderstood. I think we understand completely - Gaming Industry's catch phrase should be "Show me the money!" as for them nothing else matters.
